Since June 1, Martijn Stekelenburg has been part of the commercial contracts team at Wille Donker lawyers. With his extensive experience in contract law, he enthusiastically dives into cooperation with colleague Sam van Santen. Together they are committed to further expanding the practice group.
Connection to everyday life
Where some see the law as something abstract, Martijn sees above all the connection with everyday life. Both in his work and private life, he has noticed how often you come into contact with the law in different phases of life. Martijn: “Whether you make an online purchase, buy a house or conclude a business deal: you connect with others every time. ”
Precisely because law is so intertwined with life itself, Martijn remains curious about different areas of law. He sees that there is room for creativity and interpretation. “I see the law as a guide. A description of standards of conduct. For me, the starting point of every case remains a good and open conversation,” Martijn said.
Personal connection
That same commitment can be seen in his way of working. He likes to seek the personal connection with his clients. “By understanding what is on someone’s mind, you get all the interests on the table. What drives someone, what do they really want to achieve? Only then can you arrive at a solution that works,” Martijn says. “At the same time, clients can expect direct and honest communication from me. If I don’t see a solution, they will hear it.”
Solution-oriented work, in other words. Especially with an eye for the person behind the case. Martijn: “First talk to each other, to the client and to the other party. That way you avoid going straight to court. That saves time, money and frustration.”
Guide from A to Z
In the past, Martijn was mainly involved in resolving disputes surrounding contracting, motor vehicle and commercial contracts. In 2026, he plans to start professional training for lawyers. This move stems from his desire to be able to assist clients from A to Z. “As a lawyer, you can do a lot, but somewhere it stops,” he explains. “You know the case inside out, and then you have to hand it over. I want to be able to finish it together with my client.”
A warm welcome
Wille Donker’s first impression? That one is quite good as far as Martijn is concerned. “A warm team, a lot of knowledge in house and colleagues who are willing to help each other. That suits how I work. I am looking forward to finding my place here and growing further.”
Welcome to Wille Donker, Martin!
